Privacy Policy

Effective Date: November 20, 2025

Last Updated: November 20, 2025

Introduction

Tripmarks ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the Tripmarks mobile application (the "App").

Information We Do NOT Collect

Tripmarks is designed with privacy in mind. We do not collect, store on our servers, transmit to third parties, or share any of the following:

  • Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
  • Device identifiers for tracking purposes
  • Advertising IDs
  • Precise location data
  • Usage analytics or behavioral tracking data
  • IP addresses or browsing history
  • Your place content, photos, or notes

We have no servers or databases storing your personal information.

Local Data Storage

The App stores all your data locally on your device using Apple's Core Data framework. This data never leaves your device except through iCloud sync (see below):

  • Places: Place titles, addresses, URLs, notes, and categories
  • Place Images: Photos you add to places are stored locally on your device
  • Collections: Custom collections you create to organize places (e.g., cities, trips)
  • App preferences: Your settings and display preferences

Important: All locally stored data is protected by your device's security features. This data is automatically deleted when you uninstall the App (unless you have iCloud sync enabled, see below).

iCloud Sync

If you choose to enable iCloud sync, your place data is automatically backed up and synchronized across your Apple devices using Apple's CloudKit service:

  • All place data (titles, addresses, notes, images, collections, coordinates) is stored in your private iCloud account
  • This data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
  • Only you can access this data through devices signed in to your iCloud account
  • We cannot access your iCloud data
  • iCloud sync can be disabled at any time in iOS Settings → iCloud → Tripmarks

For more information about how Apple handles iCloud data, please review Apple's Privacy Policy.

CloudKit Sharing

When you share a place or collection with another Tripmarks user:

  • The place/collection and its images are shared via Apple's CloudKit sharing system
  • The recipient must have Tripmarks installed and be signed in to iCloud
  • You control who can access the shared content and can stop sharing at any time
  • Shared places are stored in the recipient's iCloud account
  • We do not have access to shared place data

Apple may log share activity for operational purposes. See Apple's Privacy Policy for details.

Place Import from Web

When you import places from websites (including Google Maps):

  • The App makes a direct connection from your device to the website (not through our servers)
  • The website may log your IP address and request details per their privacy policy
  • Place content and images are downloaded and stored locally on your device
  • We do not track which websites you visit or places you import

Location Services

Tripmarks may request access to your device's location for the following optional features:

  • "Near Me" Filter: To show places near your current location
  • Manual Place Creation: To auto-populate address fields when creating places

Important: Location data is only used locally on your device and is never sent to our servers. You can deny location access and still use all core features of the app. Location permissions can be managed in iOS Settings → Tripmarks → Location.

Apple Services

When you download Tripmarks from the App Store, Apple may collect standard information such as:

  • Download and installation data
  • Crash reports (if you opt-in to share diagnostics with Apple)
  • App Store review data

This data is collected by Apple, not by us. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for details.

Data Security

Since we don't collect or transmit your personal data to our servers, there is no centralized database that could be compromised. All data remains on your device or in your private iCloud account, protected by:

  • Device encryption (if enabled)
  • iCloud encryption (if sync is enabled)
  • Your device passcode and biometric authentication
  • Apple's security infrastructure

Children's Privacy

Tripmarks does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The App is not directed at children. If you believe a child has used the App, please contact us and we will provide guidance on removing any locally stored data.

International Users

Tripmarks is available worldwide. If you enable iCloud sync, your data is stored in Apple's iCloud infrastructure, which may be located in various countries based on your Apple ID region. Apple's privacy policies apply to iCloud data storage and transmission.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy and may notify you through the App or App Store update notes. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Your Rights and Data Control

Since we don't collect your personal information on our servers, there is no data for us to access, modify, export, or delete. You have full control over your data:

  • Delete individual places: Swipe left on any place in the app
  • Delete all local data: Uninstall the App to permanently remove all locally stored information
  • Manage iCloud data: Disable iCloud sync in iOS Settings → iCloud → Tripmarks
  • Delete iCloud data: Go to iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage → Tripmarks → Delete Documents and Data
