Frequently Asked Questions

Does Cookmarks work offline?

Yes! Once recipes are saved, you can view them offline. However, you need an internet connection to:
• Import recipes from websites
• Sync with iCloud
• Share recipes with others

Can I export my recipes?

Currently, you can share individual recipes using the share functionality. Bulk export features may be added in future updates. All your data is stored in iCloud and will remain accessible as long as you have the app installed.

What websites are supported for recipe import?

Cookmarks can import recipes from most cooking websites that use standard recipe markup. This includes popular sites like AllRecipes, Food Network, NYT Cooking, Serious Eats, and many more. If a site doesn't work, you can always add the recipe manually.

Can I adjust serving sizes or scale recipes?

Recipe scaling features may be added in future updates. For now, you can edit the recipe to adjust ingredient amounts as needed.

Is there a web version or Android app?

Currently, Cookmarks is only available for iOS (iPhone and iPad). There are no immediate plans for Android or web versions.

Troubleshooting

Recipe import isn't working from Safari

Try these steps:
1. Make sure the Cookmarks share extension is enabled:
iOS Settings → Safari → Extensions → Enable Cookmarks
2. Force quit Safari and reopen
3. If you don't see Cookmarks in the share sheet, scroll to the bottom and tap "Edit Actions"
4. Make sure Cookmarks is enabled

Recipes aren't syncing between devices

Check the following:
• Both devices are signed in to the same iCloud account
• iCloud Drive is enabled on both devices
• Cookmarks has iCloud enabled: Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Cookmarks
• You have enough iCloud storage available
• Both devices have an internet connection

Note: Initial sync can take a few minutes, especially with many photos.

Photos aren't loading or appearing corrupted

1. Make sure you have a stable internet connection (if using iCloud)
2. Check your iCloud storage isn't full
3. Try force quitting and reopening the app
4. If the problem persists, try re-adding the photo

Can't share recipes with others

Make sure:
• You're signed in to iCloud
• You have an internet connection
• The recipient has Cookmarks installed
• The recipient is signed in to iCloud
• iCloud sync is enabled for both users

App is crashing or freezing

1. Force quit the app completely
2. Restart your device
3. Make sure you have the latest version of Cookmarks from the App Store
4. Make sure your iOS is up to date
5. Check that you have enough device storage available

If the problem continues, please contact support with details about when the crash occurs.

Recipe formatting looks wrong after import

Some websites use non-standard recipe formats that may not import perfectly. You can always edit the recipe after importing to clean up any formatting issues.

How do I recover deleted recipes?

Unfortunately, deleted recipes cannot be recovered unless they were shared with you by someone else (in which case they still have the original). We recommend being careful when deleting and considering using categories instead of deletion to organize recipes.
